Discover more about Dauderi

The Dauderi Museum, a branch of the National History Museum of Latvia, is situated in the Sarkandaugava district of Riga. The museum resides within a distinctive red-brick mansion constructed in 1898 as the family residence of Adolf von Bingner, owner of the Waldschlössen brewery. The building's architecture showcases an eclectic style with German Neo-Romantic influences, featuring small towers and columns. The surrounding park, designed by Riga's garden architect Georg Kuphaldt, includes a pond and artificial castle ruins. Following World War I, the mansion had various uses, including serving as the summer residence for Kārlis Ulmanis, the President of Latvia, from 1937 to 1940. During the Soviet era, it functioned as a kindergarten, a fish processing facility, and a tasting hall. Despite some neglect, the mansion retained its original fireplaces, wooden panels, ceiling paintings, and expansive garden. The museum was established in 1990 to house the extensive collection of Gaidis Graudiņš, a Latvian exile who donated his collection to the state. The collection includes numismatics, faleristics, military uniforms, folk costumes, and various art pieces and historical documents related to Latvia's independence and the cultural activities of Latvian exiles. The museum's exhibits provide insights into the history of the mansion, the Sarkandaugava neighborhood, and the broader history of Latvia in the 20th century. Today, visitors can explore the museum's exhibitions, participate in guided tours, and enjoy the picturesque setting of the villa and its surrounding park.
