The Christmas Battle Museum, a branch of the Latvian War Museum, stands as a poignant reminder of the fierce battles fought during World War I. Visitors can explore a dugout and a section of the first line of German defense fortifications, known as the “German Wall,” a unique structure in the Baltic region. Inside the museum, the exhibition “The Christmas Battles of Latvian Riflemen” offers a fascinating historical account of the events, with over 200 photographs, battle plans, and artifacts discovered in the area. The museum also houses the largest battle site model in Latvia, depicting several square kilometers of territory with WWI fortifications. The museum provides a unique opportunity to understand the conditions and sacrifices made by soldiers during the war. An exploratory trail of 7.2 km starts and ends at the museum, following the attack road of the 1st Latvian Riflemen Brigade on January 5, 1917.
