Krustpils Castle, a prominent landmark in Jēkabpils, Latvia, boasts a rich and complex history spanning nearly eight centuries. Constructed in 1237 by the Archbishop of Riga, Nicholas of Magdeburg, the castle initially served as a crucial fortification along the Daugava River, guarding the route between Riga and Daugavpils. Over the centuries, Krustpils Castle has changed hands multiple times, reflecting the shifting political landscape of the region. In 1359, it was seized by the Livonian Order, becoming a point of contention between the Order and the Archbishopric. In the 20th century, the castle served military purposes, housing the Latgale Artillery Regiment after World War I and later being used by the Soviet Army.
