Discover more about Līgatne Nature Trails

Līgatne Nature Trails, established in 1975, offer a unique opportunity to explore Latvia's diverse wildlife in a natural setting. Situated within Gauja National Park, the trails wind through a landscape of wooded ravines and alongside the Gauja River, providing visitors with stunning views and a chance to connect with nature. The trails stretch over 5 km and are designed to showcase the wild animals native to Latvia. Animals such as red deer, roe deer, wild boars, bears, black foxes, and lynx live in large, open-air enclosures that mimic their natural habitat. This allows visitors to observe these creatures up close while ensuring their well-being. The trails themselves vary in difficulty, with some sections featuring wooden stairs and gravel surfaces. Beyond the animals, Līgatne Nature Trails also highlight the region's unique geological formations, forests, and meadow plants. The Gauja River valley features distinctive sandstone cliffs, including Jumpraviezis Rock and Gūdu Cliffs. A 22-meter observation tower offers panoramic views of the surrounding Gauja National Park, including the Gūdu cliffs and, on a clear day, the Turaida Castle. The Līgatne Nature Trails are managed by the Nature Conservation Agency. The park's aim is to educate visitors about Latvian natural treasures and the importance of protecting local species of wild plants and animals.
