Getting There

    From Sigulda city center, head towards Sigulda Castle. Follow Pils iela for approximately 2 km, then turn right onto the road leading to Raganu Katls. The walk from Sigulda Castle to Raganu Katls is roughly 2 km and should take about 25-30 minutes. Follow the signs indicating the way to Raganu Katls. Note that the trails can be rugged, so wear sturdy footwear.

    From Sigulda train station, take bus number 1 in the direction of 'Sigulda - Rīga'. Get off at the 'Raganu katls' bus stop. After exiting the bus, follow the path leading into the forest on your right. It will take you directly to Raganu katls in about 10 minutes on foot. A single bus fare within Sigulda is approximately €1-2.

Raganu Katls, nestled within the Nurmižu Gravas Reserve near Sigulda, is a captivating natural wonder. This massive, cauldron-like depression, also known as the Witch's Cauldron, was formed over time by the erosive force of various watercourses, carving a dramatic bowl into the sandstone landscape. The resulting ravine features towering rock walls, reaching up to 20 meters in height, creating a stunning panorama reminiscent of a geological museum. Inside the cauldron, layers of Gauja and Amata suite sandstones are exposed, revealing intricate patterns of red clay inclusions and aleurolite bands. A small, picturesque cave at the base of the western edge adds to the allure, with a small stream flowing from its depths.
