Discover more about Odziena Manor

Odziena Manor, or Odzienas muižas pils, is a captivating neo-Gothic manor house dating back to around 1860. Located in the Vidzeme region of Latvia, in Vietalva Parish, Aizkraukle Municipality, the manor's history stretches back centuries. The first manor building on the site was constructed in the late 18th century. In the 19th century, the von Brimmer family acquired the estate and commissioned the impressive neo-Gothic structure that stands today. Rudolf Friedrich Adrian von Brimmer (1809 – 1880) significantly contributed to establishing the Odziena Estate, including the manor house, park, and outbuildings. His major achievement is considered the building of the manor house, which today is considered one of the most impressive neo-gothic buildings in Latvia. Its slim, six-storey tower is a popular landmark standing sentinel among the low, rolling hills of the Vidzeme landscape. Odziena's history dates back to 1455, when it was known as Odense or Odse. The manor remained in the hands of the von Brimmer family until the Latvian Republic's agrarian reforms in the 1920s. During the unrest of 1905, the manor was stormed and set ablaze by peasants, leaving it a burnt-out shell. Although the family attempted restoration, World War I interrupted their efforts. Today, Odziena Manor is experiencing a revival thanks to new ownership and restoration efforts. The former inn has been transformed into a guesthouse, and a craft brewery produces Odzienas Alus beer. Visitors can explore the grounds, admire the architecture, and even view a collection of Soviet-era cars and technology. The manor also hosts events and celebrations, making it a vibrant cultural destination.
