    Discover more about Stameriena castle

Nestled in the scenic Gulbene Municipality of Latvia, Stāmeriena Castle stands as a captivating architectural gem. Built between 1835 and 1843 for Johann Gottlieb von Wolff, the castle later underwent a dramatic transformation after being burned down during the Russian Revolution in 1905. Rebuilt in 1908 by Baron Boris von Wolff, it emerged with a unique blend of French Neo-Renaissance and Art Nouveau styles, making it one of Latvia's most interesting eclectic buildings. The castle's history is intertwined with notable figures. The von Wolff family resided here for generations, and in the 1930s, the palace was home to the celebrated Sicilian writer Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, who married Baroness Alexandra von Wolff. After WWII, the palace served as an agricultural technical school and later a Soviet farm administration building.Following a period of neglect after 1992, Stāmeriena Castle was privatized in 1998 and has since been undergoing restoration. Today, visitors can explore the castle's chic interiors, view a photo exhibition showcasing its pre-restoration state, and wander through the surrounding landscape park. The castle also hosts various events, including concerts, exhibitions, and family celebrations. The renovated facade and roof, completed in 2019, highlight the castle's architectural beauty, while a multimedia exposition delves into the von Wolff family's history.
