Discover more about Château Khoury

Château Khoury, a family-run vineyard established in 1995 by Raymond and Brigitte El Khoury, is a testament to Lebanese winemaking tradition and innovation. Located in the Zahlé region, in the eastern foothills of Mount Lebanon, the vineyard sits at an altitude of 1,300 meters above sea level, offering panoramic views of the Bekaa Valley, Mount Hermon, and the city of Zahlé. The story of Château Khoury began after the Lebanese civil war when the El Khoury family decided to revive abandoned land and plant vines. With the advice of French friends, they cultivated 15 hectares of southeast-facing land, blending traditional Lebanese grape strains with Alsatian varietals. The winery itself was constructed in 2002, with the first vinification taking place in 2004. Today, Jean-Paul El Khoury, Raymond and Brigitte's son, brings his expertise in oenology from the University of Reims in Champagne, adding a modern touch to the family's winemaking experience. Château Khoury's architecture reflects traditional Lebanese style, with buildings constructed of cut stone that blend seamlessly into the picturesque landscape. The vineyard's high altitude ensures ample exposure for the vines while maintaining the aridity of the plain in summer, contributing to the unique characteristics of the wines. The winery is committed to producing high-quality wines that capture the essence of the Lebanese climate and the terroir of the estate. Visitors can enjoy detailed tours led by the family, followed by lunch on the terrace, where they can savor the wines while taking in the breathtaking views. Lebanon's wine history is rich and complex, dating back to the Phoenician era, when the Lebanese were masters of the wine trade in the Mediterranean. The Romans honored the wine god Bacchus with temples, and Lebanese wine is even mentioned in the Bible. Château Khoury continues this legacy, producing a variety of wines, including reds, rosés, and sweet wines, using grape varieties such as Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and also Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Riesling.
