Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the capital, Beirut. Take the Beirut-Damascus highway (Route 5) heading east. After about 30 km, take the exit towards the town of Bhamdoun. Continue driving through Bhamdoun and follow the road signs leading to Mount Sannine. The last stretch will take you through the scenic village of Faraya. Once you reach the ski resort area, continue up the road towards Mount Sannine. The journey from Beirut should take approximately 1.5 hours depending on traffic conditions. Make sure to check road conditions in winter as snow can impact accessibility.
Public Transportation
For those opting for public transportation, start your journey from Beirut's Charles Helou Bus Station. Take a shared taxi or a bus heading to the town of Faqra or Faraya. The fare typically ranges from 10,000 to 15,000 LBP (Lebanese Pounds). Upon reaching Faqra or Faraya, you may need to hire a local taxi or arrange for a ride to the base of Mount Sannine. This last leg can cost around 20,000 LBP to 30,000 LBP depending on the driver. The total travel time using public transport may take around 2 to 3 hours.
Hiking
For the more adventurous, consider hiking to Mount Sannine. If you have your own transportation, drive to the village of Faraya and park your car there. From Faraya, you can find trails that lead up to Mount Sannine. The hike is challenging and requires good physical condition, taking approximately 3 to 4 hours to reach the summit. Ensure you have appropriate gear, sufficient water, and snacks for the journey. It's advisable to start early in the morning to avoid afternoon heat and to ensure you have enough daylight to return.
