Nimba National Forest: A Liberian Natural Treasure

Nimba National Forest, situated in Liberia's Nimba County, is a stunning protected area renowned for its lush landscapes and diverse wildlife. Bordering both Guinea and Côte d'Ivoire, the forest is composed of eastern and western sections, covering approximately 187 square kilometers. This natural sanctuary is also known as the Mount Nimba Forest Reserves. The forest is an Important Bird Area, hosting significant bird populations. It's thought that the reserves once supported populations of western chimpanzees, with local reports suggesting an increase during the Liberian civil wars. However, the area suffered impacts from conflict, resource extraction, and displacement.
