Discover more about Vogelparadies Birka

Vogelparadies Birka, or Bird Paradise Birka, is a small, idyllic bird park located in Mauren, Liechtenstein, near the Austrian border. The park, managed by the Ornithological Association of Mauren, was established in 1971 and has since become a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. The park is home to around 140 birds of 60 different species, primarily parrots and parakeets from Africa, South America, Asia, and Australia. Visitors can observe hyacinth macaws, red-fronted macaws, and great green macaws, among other endangered species. In addition to the aviaries, there is a free-flight enclosure for ornamental chickens, sponsored in 2004 by the International Lottery in Liechtenstein Foundation. Beyond the birds, Vogelparadies Birka offers a playground and petting zoo, making it an ideal destination for families with children. The park also features a biotope and a clubhouse. Several sculptures by Willi Meier, a member of the Ornithological Association, adorn the park, including concrete eagles at the entrance and an octagonal dolphin fountain. The park is situated on the Josef-Murr-Weg, named after a biologist who explored the Mauren area. A small fountain with a plaque commemorating the Rhine River flood of 1927 is located at a nearby intersection.
