Vogelparadies Birka: A Bird Lover's Haven in Mauren

Vogelparadies Birka, nestled in the scenic town of Mauren, Liechtenstein, offers a delightful escape into the world of birds and nature. This small animal park, lovingly built up by the Ornithological Association of Mauren since 1971, has become a popular destination for visitors of all ages. The park is home to over 140 birds, mainly parrot species from Africa, South America, Asia and Australia, housed in 11 aviaries. You can also spot other birds such as chickens and geese. In addition to the aviaries, a free-flight enclosure, sponsored by the International Lottery in Liechtenstein Foundation in 2004, provides a natural habitat for ornamental chickens. The park also features a playground and petting zoo, making it a hit with families. The Ornithological Association of Mauren is dedicated to the well-being of the birds, handling feeding, breeding, and healthcare. The park's design includes sculptures by Willi Meier, such as the concrete eagles at the entrance and the dolphin fountain. Adjacent to the park is the Maurer Riet nature reserve, offering opportunities for hiking and exploring local flora and fauna. For refreshments, a kiosk near the clubhouse offers snacks and drinks. The clubhouse itself can be rented for events, and in winter, the kiosk moves inside to the first floor. The street on which Vogelparadies Birka is located is named after Josef Murr, a biologist who explored the Maurer Riet.
