Fürstin-Gina-Weg: A Princess's Path in the Liechtenstein Alps

Hike the Fürstin-Gina-Weg in Liechtenstein: A challenging alpine trail with stunning views, named in honor of a beloved princess.

4.8

The Fürstin-Gina-Weg (Princess Gina Trail) is a stunning hiking route in the mountains of Liechtenstein, named in honor of the late Princess Gina, mother of the current Prince Hans-Adam II. This well-maintained trail provides hikers with an immersive experience in the Alps, showcasing breathtaking views and diverse alpine flora. The trail, a loop approximately 12 km long, begins near the Malbun-Sareis chair lift. Hikers can either ascend on foot or take the chairlift up to Sareis to save on some initial elevation gain. From Sareis, the path follows the ridge towards Sareiserjoch, where the trail becomes more challenging. The route then winds through alpine flowers and rocky sections up to Augstenberg, the highest point of the hike at 2,359 meters, marked with a summit cross and offering panoramic views. The descent towards Pfälzerhütte is steep in sections and secured with ropes in exposed areas. The Pfälzerhütte, a cozy mountain hut at 2,109 meters, provides a resting point and possible overnight stay. From the hut, the trail leads down to Alp Gritsch, through mountain pines to Tälihöhi, and finally back to Malbun. While the Fürstin-Gina-Weg is considered a challenging hike, it's suitable for experienced hikers with a good head for heights. The trail features varied terrain, including uphill sections, switchbacks, stairs, and some exposed areas. The best time to hike the trail is from July to mid-October.
