Die alte Fichte, Großmutter Fichte: A Natural Landmark in Schaanwald

Die alte Fichte, or Großmutter Fichte, is situated along the Salamanderweg in Schaanwald, a charming village in Liechtenstein. This tourist attraction is a prominent natural landmark, inviting visitors to explore the surrounding wooded area and appreciate the tranquility of the natural environment. While the name suggests a specific old spruce tree, it is also closely associated with the Waldlernpfad Schaanwald, a nearby nature trail. This 2.5 km trail features ten stations that highlight various aspects of the forest, its inhabitants, and ecological connections, providing an educational and immersive experience for visitors of all ages. The trail starts and ends at the Forstwerkhof, and takes approximately 1.5 hours to complete. First established in 1971, the Waldlernpfad was revamped in 2017 to offer a more engaging and nature-oriented experience. Illustrated information boards and child-friendly installations encourage interaction and learning about the forest. The trail also passes by a large forest playground, making it a family-friendly destination.
