Kunstraum Engländerbau: A Hub for Contemporary Art in Vaduz

Kunstraum Engländerbau, situated in the Städtle (main street) of Vaduz, is a prominent venue for contemporary art in Liechtenstein. The art space is located on the second floor of the Engländerbau building. This unique building has a rich history, initially constructed in 1933/1934 as the headquarters for a British lottery company, hence its name. Designed by architect Erwin Hinderer, it was the first steel-frame structure in Liechtenstein. Over the years, the Engländerbau has served various purposes, including housing a dental factory, a radio station, and even the Liechtenstein State Art Collection from 1969 to 2000. Since 2002, following the Art Collection's relocation to the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, the building has been repurposed as Kunstraum Engländerbau, a dedicated space for contemporary art exhibitions. The Kunstraum hosts several rotating exhibitions each year, showcasing a variety of art forms, including painting, photography, sculpture, video art, and performance art. The focus is on contemporary art from Liechtenstein and the surrounding region, providing a platform for local artists to present their work and engage in dialogue with international positions.
