From the Liechtenstein capital Vaduz, take bus line 11 towards Mauren. Get off at the Schellenberg, Post bus stop. From there, walk along Schlossweg to Obere Burg, which takes approximately 15 minutes. Bus tickets start from 2 CHF for a short trip.

If you are in Schellenberg, navigate to Schlossweg. Follow the signs to Obere Burg, located at Schlossweg 20. The walk is scenic and provides an opportunity to enjoy the surroundings. The walk should take around 15-20 minutes.

Car

From any location within the Gamprin Region, head towards the A13 motorway and take the exit towards Schellenberg. Continue on the main road until you reach Schlossweg. Follow Schlossweg, and you will find Obere Burg located at Schlossweg 20. Parking is available nearby. Parking fees may apply.

Obere Burg, also known as Burg Neu-Schellenberg, stands as a testament to Liechtenstein's rich history. Located in the village of Schellenberg, this ruined castle, built around 1200, offers a fascinating glimpse into the medieval past. The castle's first written record dates back to 1348. Abandoned around the 16th century, it gradually fell into disrepair, losing its military significance.In 1956, Prince Franz Joseph II gifted the overgrown ruins to the Historical Association of the Principality of Liechtenstein, who now oversee its preservation. Today, visitors can explore the remains of the castle, including the gate, walls and building foundations. The site is open to tourists and provides sitting areas with fire pits for relaxation. Obere Burg is easily accessible and offers panoramic views, making it a popular destination for history enthusiasts and those seeking a peaceful retreat.While exploring Obere Burg, take advantage of the vantage points for beautiful sunset views.
