    Discover more about Obersee

Obersee, a jewel in the Swiss landscape, is situated in a beautiful valley in Glarus Nord, above Näfels. Often compared to British Columbia for its stunning vistas, the lake's crystal-clear waters mirror the imposing Glarner Alps, creating a breathtaking panorama. This idyllic location is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. A stroller-friendly path encircles the lake, offering easy access for families and those seeking a gentle walk. Hiking trails of varying difficulty levels wind through the surrounding hills, catering to both seasoned hikers and casual walkers. Fishing is also popular, with opportunities to catch trout and perch. Obersee is more than just a visual treat. It's a place to reconnect with nature, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and enjoy a peaceful retreat. Pack a picnic to savor by the lakeside, or visit the Berghotel Obersee for a traditional Swiss meal. The lake is accessible by car via a steep, winding road from Näfels. While swimming is possible, the invasive narrowleaf waterweed might be a concern for some. A forest nature trail adds an educational element to the experience. In winter, the area transforms into a snowy wonderland, offering opportunities for snowshoeing and ski touring.
