Car
If you're driving from Antananarivo (the capital of Madagascar) to Ambohitantely Reserve, head north on Route Nationale 1 (RN1). After approximately 40 km, take the exit onto Route Nationale 2 (RN2) towards Moramanga. Continue on RN2 for about 60 km until you reach the town of Ambohitantely. Once in Ambohitantely, follow the local signs to the reserve entrance. Be aware that the road may be bumpy in some sections, so drive carefully.
Public Transportation
To reach Ambohitantely Reserve via public transportation, start by taking a taxi-brousse (shared minibus) from Antananarivo to Moramanga. The journey takes about 2-3 hours and costs approximately 15,000 ARIARY ($4 USD). Once in Moramanga, transfer to another taxi-brousse heading towards Ambohitantely. This leg of the trip will take about 1-2 hours and may cost around 10,000 ARIARY ($2.50 USD). After arriving in Ambohitantely, ask locals for directions to the reserve, as signage may be limited.
Walking
If you're already in the town of Ambohitantely, you can walk to the reserve entrance. From the town center, head northeast on the main road. Follow the road for about 3 km until you reach the entrance of Ambohitantely Reserve. The walk takes approximately 30-40 minutes, and it's a pleasant trek through the countryside. Ensure to wear comfortable shoes and carry water, especially if it's sunny.
