Car
If you're driving from the town of Toamasina (Tamatave), take the RN2 highway heading east. After approximately 100 kilometers, take the exit towards Ambatanirana. Follow the signs for Ambatanirana, and once you enter the town, navigate towards the coordinates PJ3X+28. The road is generally well-maintained, but be cautious of local traffic and pedestrians. Parking is available near the volcano site.
Public Transportation (Taxi-Brousse)
To reach Jonah’s volcano via public transportation, head to the main taxi-brousse station in Toamasina. Look for a taxi-brousse heading to Ambatanirana. The journey will take about 2-3 hours, depending on traffic. The fare is typically around 10,000 to 15,000 Ariary. Once you arrive in Ambatanirana, you can either walk to the volcano site (approximately 30 minutes) or hire a local guide for a small fee to assist you.
Walking
If you're already in Ambatanirana, you can walk to Jonah’s volcano from the town center. Head south on Avenue de l'Indépendance and continue straight until you reach the outskirts of town. From there, follow the dirt path leading towards the coordinates PJ3X+28. The walk takes about 30 minutes and offers beautiful scenery of the local landscape. Ensure you have comfortable shoes and carry water with you.
