Experience CIRQUE ROUGE

Getting There

  • Car

    From the main entrance of Ankarafantsika National Park, head northwest on Route Nationale 4 (RN4) towards Mahajanga. Continue for approximately 40 km until you reach the turnoff for the CIRQUE ROUGE. The turnoff is marked with a sign. Turn left and follow the dirt road for about 10 km until you reach the parking area near the CIRQUE ROUGE. Note that the dirt road may be bumpy, so ensure your vehicle has good clearance.

  • Public Transportation

    From the park entrance, take a taxi-brousse (shared minibus) heading to Mahajanga. The fare is around 10,000 Ariary (approx. $2.50). Get off at the junction for CIRQUE ROUGE, which is approximately 40 km from the park. From the junction, you will need to arrange a local guide or hire a taxi to take you the remaining 10 km to the CIRQUE ROUGE. The cost for this may vary, so it’s advisable to negotiate beforehand.

  • Walking

    If you are already within Ankarafantsika National Park and prefer to hike, you can follow the park's marked trails leading towards the CIRQUE ROUGE. Start at the main visitor center and follow the signs towards the trailhead. The hike is approximately 15 km one way and may take around 3-4 hours.
