Getting There

Car
From the main entrance of Ankarafantsika National Park, head northwest on the National Route 4 (RN4) towards the city of Mahajanga. Continue driving for approximately 80 kilometers until you reach the town of Katsepy. Look for the turnoff to Lac Amparihilava, which will be marked as you enter Katsepy. Follow the signs towards Lac Amparihilava for about 5 kilometers until you arrive at the lake. Note that the roads can be rough, so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended.

Public Transportation
From Ankarafantsika National Park, take a taxi-brousse (shared minibus) heading towards Mahajanga. After approximately 1.5 hours, ask the driver to drop you off at the intersection for Katsepy. From there, you will need to catch a local taxi or arrange for a motorcycle taxi to take you the final 5 kilometers to Lac Amparihilava. Be prepared to negotiate the fare with the motorcycle taxi driver.

If you are already in Katsepy, you can walk to Lac Amparihilava. Starting from the center of Katsepy, head west towards the lake. Follow the local pathways; it will take about an hour of walking. Make sure to ask locals for directions if you are unsure of the path, as it may not be well-marked.
