From the town of Sava, head south on Route National 5 (RN5) towards Antalaha. Follow the signs for approximately 35 kilometers until you reach Antalaha. From Antalaha, continue to follow RN5 east towards Vohemar for about 30 kilometers. You will then see signs directing you towards Antongil Bay. The road will lead you directly to the bay area, which is approximately 15 kilometers from Vohemar. Ensure your vehicle is in good condition, as some parts of the road may be unpaved. Note that you may encounter checkpoints, so keep some cash handy for any potential tolls or fees along the way.
Public Transportation (Taxi-Brousse)
To reach Antongil Bay from Sava using public transportation, first, go to the nearest taxi-brousse station in Sava. Look for a taxi-brousse heading to Antalaha. The fare is usually around 10,000 Ariary (approximately $3). The journey takes about 1 hour. Once you arrive in Antalaha, you will need to take another taxi-brousse heading towards Vohemar. This ride will cost around 5,000 Ariary (approximately $1.50) and take another hour. After reaching Vohemar, ask the driver or locals for directions to Antongil Bay, which is about 15 kilometers away. You may need to hire a local taxi or arrange for a shared ride to cover this last stretch.
Local Taxi
If you prefer a more direct approach, you can hire a local taxi from either Antalaha or Vohemar to take you to Antongil Bay. Ensure you negotiate the fare beforehand; it typically ranges from 20,000 to 30,000 Ariary (approximately $6 to $9) for the journey from Vohemar to Antongil Bay. This option is more expensive but saves time and provides convenience as you won't have to navigate public transport schedules.
