Car
If you are traveling by car from Sava to Marojejy National Park, start by heading south on Route Nationale 5 (RN5) towards Sambava. Drive for approximately 60 km until you reach the town of Sambava, where you can refill on fuel and gather supplies. From Sambava, continue on RN5 for another 20 km until you reach the junction to Marojejy National Park. Follow the signs leading to the park entrance, a well-marked road that may require a 4x4 vehicle due to rough terrain. The total drive should take about 2 to 3 hours, depending on road conditions.
Public Transportation
To reach Marojejy National Park using public transportation, take a taxi-brousse (shared minibus) from Sambava to Marojejy. First, head to the main taxi-brousse station in Sambava and find a taxi-brousse heading towards the park. The fare typically ranges from 10,000 to 15,000 Ariary (approximately $3 to $4 USD). The journey takes about 1.5 hours. Once you arrive at the park entrance, you may need to hire a local guide, which usually costs around 50,000 Ariary (approximately $13 USD) for a day. Ensure you communicate with the driver about your destination, as some may not know the exact drop-off point for the park.
Hiking
If you prefer an adventurous approach, you can hike to Marojejy National Park from nearby villages. This option is best suited for experienced hikers. Start your hike from the village of Manantenina, which is accessible by taxi-brousse from Sambava. The hike to the park entrance is approximately 10 km and can take 3 to 4 hours. Be prepared with enough water, food, and appropriate hiking gear. It is advisable to hire a local guide for safety and navigation, which can also enhance your experience in the park.
