Getting There

• Personal Vehicle

  If you are traveling by car within Baxter State Park, start from the main entrance at Togue Pond Gate. Drive along the Park Tote Road, which is a gravel road. Follow the Tote Road for approximately 13 miles. Look for the signs indicating the Katahdin Loop Scenic Overlook. Turn left onto the Katahdin Loop Road, and you will arrive at the overlook parking area. Be aware that there may be a vehicle fee to enter the park, typically around $15 for a day pass.

• Bicycle

  For those who prefer cycling, you can navigate the same route as by car. Start from the Togue Pond Gate and cycle along the Park Tote Road. The ride is approximately 13 miles and will take you to the Katahdin Loop Road. Make sure to wear a helmet and be prepared for varying terrain, as parts of the road may be rough. As with vehicles, you will need to pay the park entry fee.

• Hiking

  If you enjoy hiking, you can take a scenic route to the Katahdin Loop Scenic Overlook. Begin your hike from the Togue Pond area, following the trails that lead toward the north side of Katahdin. This will be a longer trek, approximately 5-6 miles depending on the trail chosen, and can take several hours. Ensure you have proper hiking gear and carry enough water and snacks for the journey. The park entry fee applies as well.
