If you are driving from Lilongwe, take the M1 highway south towards Salima. Continue on this road for approximately 130 kilometers (about 2 hours). Once you reach Salima, follow the signs to the Lake Malawi National Park. From there, head towards Cape Maclear, which is around 30 kilometers away. Upon arriving at Cape Maclear, look for a boat service that can take you to Mumbo Island. The boat ride will take about 30 minutes. It's advisable to confirm the boat schedule ahead of time, as it may vary.

Start your journey by taking a minibus from Lilongwe to Salima. The minibuses leave from the Lilongwe bus station and the journey takes approximately 2 hours. Once you arrive at Salima, you will need to find a local transport option to Cape Maclear. This can be done by hiring a taxi or taking another minibus. Upon reaching Cape Maclear, you will need to arrange for a boat transfer to Mumbo Island. Make sure to check with the local boat operators for schedules and costs, which typically range from MK 10,000 to MK 15,000 per person for the boat ride.
