Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you are traveling by car, start from Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi. Head south on the M1 highway towards Blantyre. After approximately 100 km, take the exit towards the A1 road. Follow the A1 for about 30 km before turning onto the M5 road towards Lengwe National Park. Continue on the M5 for approximately 25 km until you reach the park entrance. Ensure you have a map or GPS, as some road signs may not be clearly marked.
Public Transportation
For those taking public transportation, start your journey from Lilongwe Bus Station. Board a minibus heading towards Blantyre. Inform the driver that you want to get off at the junction for the A1 road. This journey will take about 2-3 hours, depending on traffic. Once you reach the junction, you can either wait for a passing minibus heading towards Lengwe National Park or hire a local taxi to take you the remaining distance of about 25 km to the park entrance. Expect to pay around 1000-2000 MWK for the taxi ride.
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct route, you can hire a taxi from Lilongwe to Lengwe National Park. This option is more expensive but convenient. The taxi ride will take around 2-3 hours and will cost approximately 30,000-40,000 MWK, depending on negotiation with the driver. Ensure you arrange for a return trip or secure the driver's contact information for your return journey.
