From Salima Lakeshore, head south on the M5 road towards Lilongwe. Continue for approximately 30 kilometers until you reach the Chimutu area. Look for signs directing you to Thuma Forest Reserve. The reserve is located at the coordinates 46WJ+8Q3, Chimutu, which you can enter into your GPS. Upon reaching the entrance, please note that there may be a small entrance fee required for visitors, which typically ranges around 1,000 to 5,000 MWK (Malawi Kwacha) depending on the specific activities planned within the reserve.

To reach Thuma Forest Reserve from Salima Lakeshore using public transportation, first take a minibus or taxi from Salima to Lilongwe. After arriving at the Lilongwe bus station, you can catch another minibus heading towards Chimutu. Make sure to inform the driver that you are going to Thuma Forest Reserve. The fare for the minibus from Salima to Lilongwe is usually around 1,500 MWK, and from Lilongwe to Chimutu, it should cost approximately 500 MWK. Once you arrive in Chimutu, you may need to walk or hire a local motorcycle taxi (known as 'choppa') to get to the reserve entrance, which may cost about 1,000 MWK.
