Car
If you're traveling by car, start from the nearest town in the Shire Valley, such as Zomba. Head east on the M1 highway towards Blantyre. After approximately 30 km, take the exit towards the M5 road at the junction near Machinga. Continue on the M5 for about 15 km until you reach the turn-off for Mulumbe Peak, which is marked with a sign. Follow the dirt road for about 5 km until you reach the parking area. Note that the dirt road can be rough, so a 4WD vehicle is recommended.

For those using public transportation, begin your journey in Zomba, where you can catch a minibus headed towards Blantyre. Ask the driver to drop you off at the Machinga junction. From there, you can find another minibus or a taxi that goes to the Mulumbe Peak turn-off on the M5 road. Once you reach the turn-off, you may need to walk or arrange for a local taxi to take you the remaining 5 km to the peak. Ensure you confirm the fare with the taxi driver beforehand; expect to pay around 2,000 MWK for the short trip.
