Car
If you are traveling by car from Thyolo Highlands, head north on the A1 road towards Zomba. The journey is approximately 30 kilometers and takes about 45 minutes. Once you reach Zomba, follow the signs for Zomba Mountain. Upon reaching the base of Zomba Massif, you can park your car at the designated parking area near the entrance to the hiking trails.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, you can catch a minibus from Thyolo to Zomba. The minibuses leave frequently from various points in Thyolo and the fare is usually around 500 MWK. The ride will take about an hour. Once you arrive in Zomba, you can take a taxi or a local motorcycle taxi (known as 'boda boda') to the base of Zomba Massif. Expect to pay around 1,000 MWK for the taxi or 500 MWK for the boda boda ride.
Hiking
After reaching the base of Zomba Massif, you can begin your hike to the peak. The trails are well-marked, and it typically takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to reach the top. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking shoes and bring water. There are local guides available at the entrance for a small fee if you prefer to have someone lead you.
