Car
If you are traveling by car, begin your journey in Blantyre. Head north on the M1 highway towards Lilongwe. After approximately 40 kilometers, take the exit towards Mitundu. Follow the signs leading to Mitundu town. Once you reach Mitundu, continue to follow the road until you reach the coordinates PQWG+F8P. The Mlare Dam is located nearby; look for local signs indicating the dam's vicinity. Ensure your vehicle is in good condition, as some roads may be bumpy.
Public Transportation
To reach Mlare Dam via public transport, first make your way to the main bus station in Blantyre. Take a minibus heading towards Lilongwe. Inform the driver that you would like to get off at the junction for Mitundu. Once you reach Mitundu, you may need to hire a local taxi or find a motorcycle taxi (boda-boda) to take you to the dam, which is roughly 15 kilometers from the town center. The taxi ride may cost around 2000-3000 MWK. Always confirm the fare before starting your journey.
Walking
If you are already in Mitundu and prefer walking, head north from the town center towards the direction indicated by local signs to Mlare Dam. The walk is approximately 5 kilometers and will take around 1-1.5 hours. Ensure you wear comfortable shoes and stay hydrated, as the weather can be quite warm.
