Car
If you are starting from the nearest major town, Zomba, head west on the M3 towards Blantyre. After approximately 25 km, take the exit towards the M5 road. Continue on the M5 for about 50 km until you reach the junction with the M1. Turn left onto the M1 and continue for about 20 km. Take the exit toward the Nkhata Bay road and follow the signs to Thumbi View Point. The final approach will be on a local road leading you directly to the viewpoint. Ensure your vehicle has good clearance as some parts of the road may be uneven. Parking is available near the viewpoint.
Public Transport
From Zomba, take a minibus to Blantyre which costs around MWK 500. Once in Blantyre, find a minibus heading to Nkhata Bay. This trip may cost around MWK 2,000 and can take up to 2-3 hours. Once you reach Nkhata Bay, you may need to hire a local taxi or arrange a motorcycle taxi (boda-boda) to take you to Thumbi View Point, which could cost around MWK 1,500 to MWK 3,000 depending on the negotiation.
Walking
If you are already in the vicinity of Thumbi View Point, you can approach it on foot. From the nearest drop-off point for taxis or minibuses, follow the local paths that lead to the viewpoint. It may take around 30-45 minutes of walking, depending on your pace. Make sure to ask locals for directions to ensure you are on the correct path.
