Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the main town of Mzuzu. Head north on the M1 highway towards Livingstonia. After approximately 45 km, you will reach the junction for the Livingstonia road (look for signs indicating Livingstonia). Turn left onto the Livingstonia road. Continue for about 20 km until you reach the town of Livingstonia. From Livingstonia, follow the signs or ask locals for directions to Manchewe Waterfalls. The exact location is C47C+F3R, which is about a 10-minute drive from the town center. You may need to park at a nearby designated area and walk the final stretch to the waterfalls, which is a short hike of around 1 km.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, you can take a minibus from Mzuzu to Livingstonia. The minibuses depart from the main bus station in Mzuzu and the fare is usually around 1,000 MWK per person. The journey takes about 1 to 1.5 hours. Upon arriving in Livingstonia, you can either walk to the waterfalls or hire a local guide or a taxi to take you to C47C+F3R. The taxi fare from Livingstonia to the waterfalls will typically be around 2,000 to 5,000 MWK, depending on negotiations and the distance.
Hiking
If you are adventurous and already in the Viphya Mountains, you can hike to the Manchewe Waterfalls. Starting from Livingstonia, follow the signposted hiking trails that lead to the waterfalls. The hike is scenic but can be steep and challenging in parts. Make sure to wear appropriate footwear and bring water. Depending on your fitness level, the hike can take about 1 to 2 hours. It is recommended to go with a guide for safety and to enhance your experience.
