Walking
Start your journey at the Zomba Central Market. From the market, walk south on Mlonje Road for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the main junction. At the junction, take a left onto the Chilema Road. Continue straight for about 2 kilometers, passing by several local shops and houses. Keep an eye out for the signposts directing you towards Likwenu. As you approach Likwenu, you will see the Chilema Tree located just off the main road to your right. It is a popular local landmark, so don’t hesitate to ask locals for directions if needed.
Bicycle
Rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Zomba. Begin your ride at the Zomba Botanical Gardens and head south towards the main road. Once you reach the Mlonje Road, take a right. Continue riding for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the junction, then turn left onto Chilema Road. Cycle straight for about 2 kilometers until you see signs for Likwenu. The Chilema Tree will be just off the main road to your right. Ensure to maintain a steady pace and be mindful of pedestrians and local traffic.
Motorbike Taxi
Find a motorbike taxi (locally known as 'piki piki') near Zomba Central Market. Inform the driver that you want to go to Chilema Tree in Likwenu. The ride will take approximately 15-20 minutes. The driver will take you along Mlonje Road and then turn left onto Chilema Road. Keep an eye out for the Chilema Tree as you approach Likwenu, as it is a well-known landmark. Confirm with the driver to drop you off at a nearby spot where you can easily walk to the tree.
