Discover more about Vihamanaafushi

Vihamanaafushi, often referred to as Kurumba Maldives, holds a special place in Maldivian tourism history as the first resort island in the archipelago, opening its doors in 1972. Located in the North Male Atoll, it's conveniently close to Velana International Airport (MLE), making it easily accessible for international travelers. The island itself is compact, measuring approximately 500 by 250 meters, and can be leisurely circumnavigated in about half an hour. Kurumba's legacy is intertwined with the birth of the Maldives' tourism industry. In its early days, the resort was built using local materials like coral stone, coconut timber, and palm thatch, offering a rustic charm that has evolved into a world-class experience. Today, Kurumba boasts 180 bungalows and villas, multiple restaurants and bars, a spa, and various water sports activities. The island is known for its excellent snorkeling, with vibrant marine life and colorful coral reefs easily accessible from the shore. Vihamanaafushi caters to a diverse clientele, from honeymooners and couples to families and groups. The island's layout includes a section dedicated to VIP guests, offering secluded duplex villas with private beaches. Regular entertainment includes themed restaurants, beach parties with folk dances, and a Sunday evening welcome for new guests. The island's commitment to service and continuous upgrades have solidified its reputation as a beloved Maldives resort. While Vihamanaafushi offers a luxurious escape, it's also a place steeped in history. The first president of the Maldives, Mohamed Amin Didi, was exiled here in 1953. The island's transformation from a coconut plantation to a world-renowned resort is a testament to the Maldives' remarkable journey in tourism.
