Getting There

Walking

Muliaage is centrally located in Malé, making it easily accessible on foot from many points in the city. From the Malé Fish Market, walk east along Boduthakurufaanu Magu, then turn left onto Medhuziyaaraiy Magu. The palace will be on your left. Walking within the city is generally free.
Public Transport

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) operates bus routes throughout Malé. Check the nearest bus stop and take a bus that stops near Medhuziyaaraiy Magu. Bus fares start at MVR 3.
Taxi

Taxis are readily available in Malé. A short taxi ride to Muliaage from any point within the city should cost around MVR 20. Note that the fare may increase to MVR 30 after 11:00 PM.

Muliaage, situated in the Henveiru ward of Malé, serves as the official residence of the President of the Maldives. This historic building, located on Medhuziyaarai Magu, is close to other significant landmarks like the Medhu Ziyaaraiy, the Malé Friday Mosque, and the Munnaru.The palace was constructed between 1914 and 1919, commissioned by Sultan Muhammad Shamsuddeen III for his son, Prince Hassan Izzuddin. The architecture, designed by Ahmed Dhoshimeyna Kilegefan, reflects the colonial bungalow style popular in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) at the time. The palace features a bright pink roof, an intricate mosaic gate, and a blue and white façade.While the interior is not generally open to the public, visitors can admire the palace's exterior and stroll through the surrounding gardens. Muliaage has served various functions throughout its history, including as the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Prime Minister's office, and even the Supreme Court. It became the official Presidential Palace in 1953 and again in 1968.Visiting Muliaage offers a chance to connect with Maldivian history and appreciate the blend of architectural styles that define the capital city. The palace is particularly picturesque during sunset.
