Palazzo Parisio: A Glimpse into Maltese Aristocracy

Palazzo Parisio, nestled in the heart of Naxxar, is a testament to Maltese aristocratic life and a captivating destination for tourists. The site's history dates back to the early 18th century when it served as a hunting lodge for Grand Master Antonio Manoel de Vilhena. In 1898, Marquis Giuseppe Scicluna acquired the property and envisioned transforming it into a glorious winter palace.The Marquis enlisted the expertise of Italian architect Carlo Sada to bring his vision to life. Between 1900 and 1907, the palace underwent extensive renovations, resulting in a blend of Art Nouveau façades and a Sicilian Baroque interior. The palace boasts gilded ceilings, lavishly decorated rooms, and rare objets d'art. The Ballroom of Mirrors, with its elaborate style, stands out as a venue for weddings and events.The gardens at Palazzo Parisio are a highlight, recognized as the only private gardens in Malta included in the Grandi Giardini Italiani collection. These walled gardens showcase a classic Baroque style, with symmetrical designs and Mediterranean flora. Visitors can wander through orange groves, admire exotic species like jacaranda and bougainvillea, and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere. The gardens also feature fountains, a grotto, and a large pool inhabited by turtles and carp.Today, Palazzo Parisio remains in the Scicluna family, with Baroness Christiane Ramsay Scicluna and her daughter, Justine, welcoming visitors from around the world.
