Nestled in the serene landscape of Ghajnsielem, the Abandoned Isolation Hospital is a striking reminder of Malta's healthcare history. Established in the early 20th century, the hospital provided refuge for patients during times of epidemics. The building's architecture showcases intricate designs, and its dilapidated exterior contrasts with the surrounding natural beauty.Originally named il-Palazz (the Palace), part of the structure dates back to the early 17th century when it functioned as a military barracks. In the late 19th century, the British government extended the building and converted it into an isolation hospital. It housed soldiers arriving in Malta with cholera and plague. During World War I, the hospital treated casualties from the Dardanelles naval campaign. In the mid-20th century, the building served as a school for the island's children. The school closed in the 1960s due to a dwindling population. Though parts of the building have been used for residential purposes, much of it has slowly decayed. Today, the Abandoned Isolation Hospital attracts photographers, urban explorers, and history enthusiasts.
