Getting There

  • Walking

    Palazzo Falson is located within the walls of Mdina, the 'Silent City.' Once you enter Mdina through the main gate, follow Villegaignon Street. The Palazzo Falson will be on your left-hand side. Mdina is relatively small and easy to navigate on foot.

  • Public Transport

    The closest bus stops to Mdina are Saqqajja and Rabat 4, located just outside the city walls in Rabat. From either bus stop, walk towards the main entrance of Mdina. Once inside the city walls, follow Villegaignon Street to find Palazzo Falson on your left. A single bus ticket costs approximately €2.60.

  • Parking

    Parking is not permitted inside Mdina. Several car parks are available outside the city walls in Rabat. The closest car park is near the playground, just outside the Mdina Gate. Other parking areas are located in the ditch under the fortifications, accessible via a narrow tunnel. Parking costs vary, but expect to pay around €5-€8 for a few hours.

Palazzo Falson, also known as the Norman House, is a historic house museum in the heart of Mdina, Malta. Originally built in the 13th century on the site of an even older structure , it has evolved over the centuries, reflecting various architectural styles and influences. The Palazzo served as a residence for Maltese nobility, most notably the Falson family, who played a prominent role in Mdina's municipal affairs.In the 20th century, Captain Olof Frederick Gollcher, a distinguished soldier and avid collector, acquired the Palazzo and meticulously restored it. He filled it with his vast collection of art, antiques, and historical artifacts, including paintings, furniture, silverware, jewelry, oriental rugs, and weaponry. The library boasts over 4,500 books and valuable manuscripts. Upon his death in 1962, Gollcher bequeathed the Palazzo and its contents to a foundation with the wish that it be opened to the public as a museum.Today, Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum offers visitors a unique glimpse into the past. The seventeen rooms showcase the domestic life of a wealthy family and the diverse collections of Captain Gollcher. Visitors can explore the courtyard, refectory, armoury, kitchen, and studio, immersing themselves in the atmosphere of a medieval townhouse. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions and events, further enriching the visitor experience.
