Public Transport
From Valletta, take bus routes 51, 52, or 53. These buses depart frequently from the Valletta Bus Terminal and take approximately 30 minutes to reach Rabat. From the Rabat bus stops, it's a short, 5-minute walk across the bridge to Mdina Gate. A single bus ticket costs €2.60 and is valid for all-day travel.
Walking
From the Rabat bus stops, cross the road and walk towards the clearly visible Mdina Gate. The walk is approximately 200 meters and relatively flat, taking you through Howard Gardens and across the bridge that connects Rabat to Mdina. There are no tolls or access fees for walking to Mdina.
Taxi
Taxis are readily available throughout Malta. A taxi ride from Valletta to Mdina typically takes around 20 minutes. You can ask to be dropped off outside Mdina's main gate or the Greek's Gate. Expect to pay around €12-€20 for a one-way trip from Valletta. Note that taxis cannot enter Mdina except for drop-offs and pick-ups.
Parking
If driving, several car parks are located just outside Mdina's city walls. A small car park is available beside the playground area just outside the Mdina gate. A larger car park is located 200 meters away from Mdina Gate, beside the Rabat bus terminus. Parking is also available in the ditch under the fortifications, accessible via a narrow tunnel. Parking attendants are usually present, and payment is at your discretion. Parking is limited, especially on busy days.
