Discover more about Dwejra

Dwejra, located on the western coast of Gozo, is a testament to the power and beauty of nature. This area boasts a unique combination of geological features, marine life, and historical significance. For many years, Dwejra was famous for the Azure Window, a natural arch that collapsed into the sea in 2017. Although the arch is gone, its remains have created a popular dive site. Divers can explore the fallen rocks and the diverse marine life that has made this area home. Another prominent feature of Dwejra is the Inland Sea, a lagoon connected to the open sea by a narrow tunnel. Visitors can take boat tours through the tunnel to explore the surrounding cliffs and caves. The calm, shallow waters of the Inland Sea are also ideal for swimming and snorkeling. Fungus Rock, also known as General's Rock, is a small islet at the entrance to Dwejra Bay. It acquired its name from a medicinal plant that once grew on its surface, which was highly valued by the Knights of Malta. The Knights heavily guarded the rock, and access was only possible via a primitive cable car system. Dwejra is also a popular spot for watching the sunset, with panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea. The area's rugged coastline and clear waters make it a photographer's paradise. Beyond its natural attractions, Dwejra has also served as a filming location for the series Game of Thrones, further adding to its allure.
