    From Valletta, take bus number 44 to Mġarr. The journey takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Get off at the 'Teatrali' bus stop. From the bus stop, walk along the main road of Mgarr, and turn down the short road in front of the government primary school. The temples are a short walk down this road. A single bus ticket costs €2.

    Drive towards the village of Mġarr. Ta' Ħaġrat is located on the eastern outskirts of the village, at the end of a side street leading off the main road. Parking is generally easy to find near the entrance. Parking is free.

  • Walking

    If you are already in Mġarr, Ta' Ħaġrat is easily accessible on foot. From the Mġarr Parish Church, walk along the main road and turn onto Triq San Pietru. The temples are located at the end of this street. The walk is short and well-signposted.

Ta' Ħaġrat, located in the village of Mġarr, Malta, is a significant UNESCO World Heritage Site comprising two megalithic temples that date back to 3600-3000 BC. These temples are among the oldest religious sites on Earth, offering a fascinating insight into Malta's prehistoric culture.The larger temple, dating from the Ġgantija phase (3600–3200 BC), features a trefoil plan with a corridor leading to a central court and three semi-circular chambers. Its concave facade includes a monumental doorway, bench, and steps. The smaller temple, constructed during the Saflieni phase (3300–3000 BC), adjoins the larger one and has a simpler four-apse design. Both temples are built from local coralline limestone.Excavations at Ta' Ħaġrat have revealed pottery deposits indicating a village existed on the site before the temples were built, dating back to 3800-3600 BC. A notable artifact discovered here is a small limestone model of a temple, now housed in the National Museum of Archaeology in Valletta.Visiting Ta' Ħaġrat provides a unique opportunity to explore ancient megalithic construction and appreciate the ingenuity of prehistoric builders.
