Il-Hagar: Heart of Gozo Museum

Il-Hagar, also known as the Heart of Gozo Museum, is a cultural center in the heart of Victoria, the capital of Gozo. Opened in 2013, the museum is managed by Fondazzjoni Belt Victoria and showcases Gozitan heritage and Christian culture. It features a collection of artistic and historical artifacts from St George's Parish Basilica, along with donations and bequests.The museum's exhibits recount the island's history through the beliefs and talents of its people. Visitors can explore a vast collection of religious and secular objects, including prehistoric artifacts, medieval relics, and contemporary art. The museum also houses the Joseph Vella Music Archive, featuring original compositions, sketches, and memorabilia.Il-Hagar boasts a permanent collection, temporary exhibition spaces, audio-visual rooms, and a rooftop terrace bar with views of St George's Basilica, the Castello, Victoria's skyline, and Gozo's rural landscape. The museum is run by volunteers and is actively involved in Gozo's cultural and artistic scene, hosting exhibitions, lectures, and educational activities. It also promotes the Christian heritage of Gozo.
