St George's Basilica, nestled in the heart of Victoria (also known as Rabat), Gozo, is more than just a church; it's a vibrant center of Gozitan life and a stunning display of Baroque architecture. The basilica's story began in 1672, with the foundation stone laid, and it was consecrated in 1755. In 1958, it earned the title of Basilica, and in 1976, it became an Archpresbyteral and Collegiate Church, linked to the Cathedral-Basilica of Saint John Lateran in Rome.Referred to as the 'Marble Basilica', the church's interior is entirely covered in marble, creating a rich and awe-inspiring atmosphere.
