Discover more about Ta' Kenuna Tower

Ta' Kenuna Tower, located on the island of Gozo near the town of Nadur, is a historical landmark with stunning panoramic views. Constructed in 1848 by the British military, the tower was one of three semaphore towers in Malta, designed to facilitate communication between the islands via a telegraphy link. Standing 130 meters (430 ft) above sea level, Ta' Kenuna Tower was strategically positioned to relay signals to ships and other posts. The semaphore system became obsolete with the introduction of the electrical telegraph, leading to the tower's closure in 1883. The tower consists of three floors, each containing a single room, connected by a spiral staircase that leads to the roof. In 2005, the Nadur Local Council and Maltacom (now GO) sponsored the tower's restoration. Today, it houses a beacon to warn ships and several communication antennas. The surrounding Ta' Kenuna Botanical Garden features indigenous Maltese plants and offers a peaceful environment for visitors. The name 'Ta' Kenuna' may originate from the word 'kenur,' referring to a place where fires were lit to signal enemy attacks. The tower provides incredible views of Gozo, Comino, and the northern part of Malta.
