Discover more about Cittadella Visitor Centre

Located within the ancient Cittadella of Victoria, the Cittadella Visitor Centre serves as the perfect starting point for exploring Gozo's captivating history. The center is housed in two old water reservoirs, constructed in the 1870s within the Cittadella Ditch. These reservoirs were transformed into a modern visitor center as part of the Cittadella Masterplan, with funding from the EU.The visitor center is divided into two main areas. The first features interactive touch screens and printed panels detailing the evolution of the Cittadella, its natural environment, military and ecclesiastical history, and civil development. Information is available in eight languages. The second area is a surround theater that presents an eight-minute video showcasing key moments in the Cittadella's long history.Visiting the Cittadella Visitor Centre provides context for exploring the rest of the Cittadella, a UNESCO World Heritage Site candidate with a history stretching back to the Bronze Age. The Citadel has been at the centre of activity on the island since possibly Neolithic times, and was certainly fortified during the Bronze Age around 1500 BC. It was later developed by the Phoenicians and in Roman times, it was a complex Acropolis. A single ticket grants access to the Visitor Centre, the Gozo Museum of Archaeology, the Nature Museum, the Old Prisons, and the Gran Castello Historic House.
