    Discover more about Fort Campbell

Fort Campbell, also known as Il-Fortizza ta' Selmun, is a former British fort located in Mellieħa, Malta. Built between 1937 and 1938, it was the last major fortification constructed in Malta by the British. The fort's strategic location on the Selmun Peninsula, between Mistra Battery and Għajn Ħadid Tower, allowed it to protect the approaches to Mellieħa Bay and St. Paul's Bay, as well as British seaplanes landing in Mistra Bay.Unlike earlier fortifications with thick ramparts, Fort Campbell was designed with thin walls to resemble the surrounding countryside, camouflaging it from aerial attacks. The fort included gun emplacements, machine-gun positions, a command post, barracks, and ammunition storage. During World War II, barracks and a radar were added.Decommissioned after the war, Fort Campbell fell into disrepair. Today, visitors can explore the ruins, though caution is advised due to unsafe structures. The site offers stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea and St. Paul's Islands, making it a popular spot for photography and nature walks.
