Fort Ricasoli, standing proudly in Kalkara, Malta, is a testament to the island's rich history and strategic importance. Constructed by the Knights of St. John between 1670 and 1698, it is the largest fort in Malta, guarding the entrance to the Grand Harbour. The promontory it occupies was once known as Gallows' Point, named after the execution of slaves who attempted to escape.Throughout its history, Fort Ricasoli has been a key player in numerous conflicts. It faced French attacks in the late 18th century and served as a crucial defense point during World War II, enduring significant damage from aerial bombardments. In 1807, the fort was the site of a mutiny by the Froberg regiment, resulting in further destruction.
