In 1807, the fort was the site of a mutiny by the Froberg regiment, resulting in further destruction. Despite these events, the fort's gate was rebuilt in 1958, showcasing a slightly modified design.While not currently accessible to the public for casual visits, Fort Ricasoli has found a new life as a filming location.
