Public Bus
From Annapolis, head to the nearest bus stop and take the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) Bus 70 towards Washington, DC. Make sure to check the schedule for departures. Stay on the bus for approximately 30 minutes until you reach the New Carrollton Metro Station. From there, transfer to the Washington Metro (Orange Line) towards Vienna and ride for about 30 minutes to the Smithsonian Station. Once you exit the station, walk about 5 minutes towards Jefferson Dr SW; the Smithsonian Castle will be on your left.

If you're near the downtown area of Annapolis, you can enjoy a scenic walk to the City Dock. From there, walk to the Annapolis Transit Terminal and take the Annapolis Circulator bus to the West Street stop. Transfer to the MTA Bus 70 towards Washington, DC. After arriving at the New Carrollton Metro Station, follow the previous instructions to take the Metro to the Smithsonian Station.

Rent a bike from a local rental shop in Annapolis and head towards the B&A Trail. Follow the trail north towards Baltimore, then take the trail to the Metro at New Carrollton. Once you arrive, lock your bike and board the Metro (Orange Line) towards Vienna. Travel for about 30 minutes, get off at the Smithsonian Station, then walk 5 minutes to reach the Smithsonian Castle.
