Getting There

  • Metro

    From Bethesda, head to the Bethesda Metro Station located at 7400 Wisconsin Ave. Take the Red Line metro train towards Glenmont. Ride for approximately 10 stops (about 20 minutes) until you reach the Smithsonian Station. Exit the train and follow the signs to the exit. Once you are out of the station, you will be on 12th St SW. Turn left and walk about 0.3 miles (approximately 6 minutes) to reach the Smithsonian Castle at 1000 Jefferson Dr SW.

    From downtown Bethesda, walk to the nearest bus stop at Wisconsin Ave & Montgomery Ave. Take the Ride On Bus Route 34 heading towards Silver Spring. Ride the bus for about 30 minutes (check the bus schedule for exact times) until you reach the stop at the National Mall. From there, walk south towards the Smithsonian Castle which is about a 10-minute walk (0.5 miles). Follow the paths towards the large building on the Mall.

    If you prefer to walk, start from downtown Bethesda and head south on Wisconsin Ave. Continue walking for about 1.5 miles until you reach the intersection with East-West Highway. Turn left onto East-West Highway and walk towards the Rock Creek Park area. Follow the signs for the National Mall, which will lead you through the park and eventually to the Smithsonian Castle. This walk will take approximately 30-40 minutes.
