Getting There

Public Bus

To reach Anacostia Park from central Gaithersburg, start by walking to the Gaithersburg Transit Center, located at 100 Maryland Ave. From there, take the Ride On bus #55 towards the Silver Spring Metro station. After approximately 30 minutes, get off at the Silver Spring Metro station. Transfer to the Washington Metro's Red Line and head towards Glenmont. Travel 7 stops and get off at the Fort Totten station. At Fort Totten, transfer to the Green Line towards Branch Avenue. After 7 stops, get off at the Anacostia station. From the Anacostia Metro station, it’s a 15-minute walk to Anacostia Park. Head south on Martin Luther King Jr Ave SE, and then turn left onto Anacostia Drive. Continue walking straight, and you will arrive at the park.
Metro

Begin your journey at the Gaithersburg Metro station on the Marc train line. Take the train towards Washington, D.C. and get off at Union Station after approximately 30 minutes. From Union Station, walk to the Red Line Metro and board the train towards Glenmont. Travel towards Fort Totten and get off after 7 stops. At Fort Totten, transfer to the Green Line towards Branch Avenue. After 7 stops, get off at the Anacostia station. Finally, walk south down Martin Luther King Jr Ave SE for about 15 minutes until you reach Anacostia Park on Anacostia Drive.
Bicycle

If you prefer to cycle, you can rent a bike from a local bike-sharing service in Gaithersburg. Start at the Gaithersburg City Hall and head south on Montgomery Ave. Continue onto Shady Grove Rd, then follow the path to the Rock Creek Trail. Follow the trail until you reach the Anacostia River Trail. This will lead you directly to Anacostia Park. The ride will take about 1 hour, depending on your speed.
Walking

For those who enjoy a long walk, start at the Gaithersburg City Hall located at 31 S Summit Ave. Walk south on Summit Ave until you reach East Diamond Ave. Turn right and continue until you reach the intersection with Frederick Ave. Cross over and follow Frederick Ave as it turns into Montgomery Village Ave. Continue walking until you reach the intersection with the Washington DC boundary. Once you enter DC, continue straight to reach Anacostia Park. This walk may take around 2-3 hours depending on your pace.
